Unlike other psychedelic substances man has used before, LSD is synthetic. It was developed in 1938 by Dr. Alfred Hoffman in the Sandoz Laboratories and was intended for psychiatric use. On one occasion, Dr Hoffman accidentally absorbed the drug through his skin. Later he tested the drug on himself to ascertain its effects in full.
He was able to discover more of the drug’s capabilities, and the medical fraternity’s interest in the drug was aroused. Until young people began to abuse the drug, it was solely intended for use in psychiatry.
